Homunculi

Legends say that when the world sundered more people than are allive today were killed on a single day in one attack. Before they could be ressurected, their bodies and ashes sprung together in almalgus of flesh, bones, metal, and stone, fueled by the destructive force--the Primordial Flame--that wroght them asunder. Their mere prescence created a Firestorm as the Primordial Flame ignited the Æther in the air and each step drained the the land of its life and turned it into a Wasteland. Once witnessed by the great Magi of the time, the technique was used by both sides to create versatile monsters that could morph and change to their environment and leave their enemies without Æther to pull from. The creatures would be compelled to fight for their creator having little memory of what they were before, their only thought to be to execute the orders and will that spawned them. Eons later, with their original masters dead and aimless, they wondered the world in Throngs, slowly hunted to near extinction. As Mæva's æther slowly replenished, they had less and less safe havens to harbor them. The few that remain keep themselves going with thoughts of overcoming the Disquiet they caused in the world and stabilize their essence.
